There is nothing quite as good as homemade biscuits.
5 cups plain flour
1 tbsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
¼ cup sugar
1 cup shortening
1 pkg dry yeast
2 tbsp warm water
Dissolve yeast into water, set aside (until yeast becomes bubbly).
Mix dry ingredients,
Cut shortening into dry ingredients.
Add yeast mixture into buttermilk and add to flour mixture. Knead into a ball.
Slightly grease sheet pan with shortening and form dough into desired size biscuits allowing for rise and place on cookie sheet. Let rise.
Before placing in oven brush top of dough with butter.
Place in a 300 degree oven until golden brown.
Yield approximately 32 biscuits.
*Best when buttermilk is room temperature.
